Arvind Kejriwal Arrested by ED
Delhi High Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea
After Skipping Nine Summons
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, 2024, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. This comes after the ED issued nine summons to Kejriwal, which he had previously skipped.
Last week, Kejriwal, who is a prominent figure in India's anti-corruption movement, was detained on corruption charges. This marked the first time a sitting chief minister has been arrested in India.
The ED's investigation into Kejriwal is related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board, a state-owned water utility. The agency has accused Kejriwal of misusing his position for personal gain and causing financial losses to the exchequer.
Kejriwal's arrest has sparked protests and demonstrations in Delhi and other parts of India. His supporters claim that the charges against him are politically motivated and that he is being targeted for his anti-corruption stance.
The ED has said that its investigation is ongoing and that it will take appropriate action based on the evidence it gathers. The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear Kejriwal's bail plea on March 25, 2024.
