Over 90000 People Affected By Conflict Receive Medical Aid

UNIFIL Provides Vital Support to Vulnerable Populations in South Lebanon

Over 90,000 People Affected by Conflict Receive Medical Aid

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has played a crucial role in providing medical support to vulnerable populations in southern Lebanon, where exchanges of fire across the Blue Line have displaced nearly 100,000 people over the past 10 months.

UNIFIL's Humanitarian Mission

  • Patrolling the area and monitoring the situation
  • Providing humanitarian assistance, including water, medical treatment, and food
  • Collaborating with Lebanese authorities to address the needs of affected communities

UNIFIL's medical assistance program has been particularly critical, as many residents have been left without access to essential healthcare services due to the conflict.

Medical Outreach Program

Through its medical outreach program, UNIFIL has:

  • Established mobile clinics to reach remote and underserved areas
  • Provided free medical consultations, medications, and vaccinations
  • Referred patients to specialized healthcare facilities when necessary

According to UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti, the program has been "a lifeline for many people who have lost their homes and livelihoods." As of December 2022, UNIFIL has provided medical treatment to over 90,000 individuals.

Collaboration with Local Partners

UNIFIL's efforts are complemented by the work of local partners, including the Lebanese Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations. By working together, they have been able to provide comprehensive support to those in need.

Continued Support Needed

While UNIFIL's medical assistance program has made a significant difference in the lives of many, the need for continued support remains. The conflict has had a devastating impact on southern Lebanon, and many people are still struggling to access basic medical care.

UNIFIL and its partners are committed to providing ongoing support to the affected communities until peace and stability are restored.
