Falcao penalty and Barrios header earn Colombia draw

Cavani sent off as Uruguay miss chance to go top

Colombia were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Uruguay in their World Cup qualifier in Barranquilla on Tuesday as Uruguay missed the chance to go top of the South American qualifying group.

Colombia took the lead through a Radamel Falcao penalty in the fifth minute, but Uruguay equalised through a Darwin Nunez header just before the half-hour mark.

Uruguay were then reduced to 10 men when Edinson Cavani was sent off for a second yellow card in the 54th minute, but they still managed to take the lead through a Luis Suarez goal in the 70th minute.

However, Colombia equalised again through a Miguel Borja goal in the 90th minute to earn a point.

The result leaves Colombia in fourth place in the group with five points from three games, while Uruguay are in third place with four points from three games.

In other matches on Tuesday, Chile beat Paraguay 2-0 in Asuncion, while Venezuela beat Ecuador 2-1 in Caracas.

Chile are now top of the group with seven points from three games, while Paraguay are bottom of the group with one point from three games.

Conclusion

The results of Tuesday's matches leave the South American World Cup qualifying group wide open, with all 10 teams still in contention for a place in Qatar.

Colombia will be looking to build on their draw against Uruguay when they face Ecuador in their next match on November 12, while Uruguay will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Brazil on the same day.
